Anita Darling Anita transferred her membership to Uptown Rotary in 2013 to have more frequent opportunities for service projects. The club’s warm and informal structure has a boots-on-the-ground approach to service trips, which include community work in Somalia, Oaxaca and Nicaragua. Their dedication to community service, coupled with shenanigans, has made her time with them thoroughly memorable.
At home, an elderly neighbor asked her for a lesson in grilling fish. A former sous-chef, she obliged, and began giving friends and neighbors hands-on cooking lessons. They encouraged her to offer cooking classes to the general public and in 2011 Sizzle Sizzle Hands-On Cooking was launched. It eventually became an extension of community service with profit donated to Rotary.
At work she is the lead analyst for special operations at San Diego County Probation. She has also worked as a public relations manager for the City of San Diego Business Improvement District Council, and as a GIS Technician and technical illustrator in civil engineering.
Anita is an irrepressible hiker and outdoor adventurist who enjoys everything from paddle-boarding and snorkel to rock climbing and mountain biking. When not in the wilderness or the kitchen, she enjoys wine-tasting trips world-wide.
